Babyproofing Your Relationship

with

Roxanne Davis, MFT
and
W. Keith Sutton, Psy.D.

Research shows that 67% of couples report a significant decrease in marital satisfaction in the first few years following the birth of their first child. In spite of the many joys children bring, the stresses of becoming new parents are particularly challenging. In this workshop you will learn tools for avoiding the pitfalls that other couples fall into and how to build your connection as a couple and provide a nurturing environment for your new baby.

We will discuss skills for communicating, logistics and schedule planning to prevent resentments from building, and how to deal with waxing and waning sexual needs and energy levels.  Together, you and your partner can be a couple whose relationship improves with the birth of your new child.

Roxanne Davis, MFT is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been in clinical practice for over a decade, working extensively with couples going through the various transitions of family and relationship. Her primary approach of emotionally focused therapy is centered on an attachment view of love, which explores the risks in staying open and present in day to day, moment to moment emotional and physical connectedness. Given this way of working with couples Roxanne is able to address a wide range of core issues, including new children in the home, evolving stages of life, adolescents going off to college and caring for elderly parents.  As well as being a couples therapist, she is also the proud mother of four year old twins.

W. Keith Sutton, Psy.D. is a licensed Psychologist and Director of the Bay Area Center for Couples Therapy. He has been working with couples for the past seven years and is trained in both Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, both evidence based, short term, effective approaches for couples.  In addition to being a psychologist, Dr. Sutton has been with his wife for the past 13 years and has a two year old daughter.
